A new smart police station that will function without any human intervention is coming up at the Dubai Silicon Oasis, it was announced on Saturday. The Dubai Police inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) to set up the centre during the year.
"The Dubai Police and DSOA will work hand in hand to develop aspects of the project and have it running this year. The DSOA will identify optimal locations for the smart police centres that provide easy access to residents, employees and visitors, while the police will handle all logistical and development aspects of the project, and provide the necessary technology and software to operate the centres," the police said in a Press statement.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, said the centre will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will offer 27 traffic- and crime-related services, as well as 33 community-related services.
He stressed the police's keenness to facilitate customer access to their services anytime. The number of visitors to regular police stations is anticipated to decrease by 80 per cent, he added. "In addition, the smart police station will be easily accessible for people of determination, further advancing Dubai's journey to become the happiest and smartest city in the world," Maj-Gen Al Marri said.
Dr Mohammed Alzarooni, Vice-Chairman and CEO of the DSOA, said the agreement aligns with the authority's commitment to providing state-of-the-art smart government services to employees and residents of its communities. He highlighted the "vital importance" of police services in safeguarding the security and happiness of the citizens.
How smart are smart police centres
A smart police centre is a fully integrated self-service police station that allows community members to apply for Dubai Police services without any human intervention. These include:
Registration
To use the station, a resident has to first register by using his/her Emirates ID or passports or even driving licences. After that, they can just follow the instructions and avail of the services they require.
