The iconic landmark, Qasr Al Hosn, is celebrating the first Ramadan since its reopening last year by giving residents a peek into age-old traditions rooted in memory. Abu Dhabi's oldest building underwent a 11-year intensive renovation and was transformed into a museum. Once home to the ruling family, Qasr Al Hosn now stands as the nation's living memorial.
On Saturday and Sunday, the national monument hosts 'Ramadan at Al Hosn' with traditional activities, performances and demonstrations, which recreates an atmosphere when people used to gather at Qasr Al Hosn to mark the holy month, an official at the museum said.
Traditional games, live entertainment, food outlets offering Emirati cuisine, cultural and recreational workshops and star gazing are some of the attractions offered at the event. Narrations about the history of Qasr Al Hosn will also be presented.
The official noted the epicentre of celebrations will be House of Artisans where emerging Emirati talents meet artisans to showcase a fusion of handcrafted products. The activities will help visitors see and learn how to make such products like kaftans and beach bags. There will be traditional costumes and local jewellery on show. People can also take part in traditional board games.
There will be traditional cannon firing to announce Iftar timings. The events start from 9pm till 1pm and entry is free.
