Danube the indoor cricket heavyweights added another feather to its cap by winning the Gold Division of the SNTTA-Makemytrip Challengers Cup at Dubai Sports City beating DBMC in a closely contested final by one run.
Electing to bat first DBMC posted a challenging total of 50 runs in their alloted eight overs. In reply, all the Danube players maintained a cool head by chasing down the target with one ball to spare.
Danube who have won three indoor titles this season already, were the favourites to win but the eventual champions were made to work hard for the the trophy.
Chasing DMBC’s 50, Danube required 12 runs from the final two overs and five from the last 6 balls as long as the final pair of Captain Mendis and Rohan did not lose a wicket.
In Indoor cricket the loss of a wicket means five runs are deducted from the total.
The last pair batted sensibly and took the score to 51 tuns with one ball to spare before Rohan survived the final ball to spark celebration in the Danube dug out.
Anis Sajan, Managing Director of Danube and team owner who witnessed the thrilling final said: “The game could have gone either way and full credit to my boys who kept their nerves and showed why Danube has been so successful over such a long period of time in Indoor Cricket.”
