Local authorities have launched an awareness campaign on how to safely manage and handle the stray dog population in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The initiative by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) aims to address the issue of stray dogs in the emirate. It seeks to preserve public health, and safety, and enhance the quality of life while providing the highest standards of welfare for stray animals in the emirate.

The campaign is being carried out through the department’s various social media platforms. This effort underscores the department’s commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership as well as highlights the consequences of abandoning a dog, which leads to an increase in the stray dog population.

This campaign provides effective and simple strategies for correctly managing and handling stray dogs to prevent property damage, and safeguard public health and safety, while also ensuring the application of animal welfare principles in stray dog population management.

The department highlighted that owners of farms, ranches, and individuals play a pivotal role in safeguarding the community and its well-being. It urges them to keep their dogs within their premises, ensure that no food waste is left around the area, as well as sterilising their dogs to effectively help control and manage the stray dog population.
