We should ‘promote Arabian horse’
NEWBURY - Mirza Al Sayegh, director of the Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Office, called for close coordination for the promotion of the Arabian horse at the international level.
“We are working in three directions towards the same objective, so we need to sit together to revamp all our resources in order to achieve this noble goal,” Al Sayegh told Khaleej Times.
UAE is leading the efforts of promoting the Arabian horse through His Highnes the President Cup series, Shaikh Hamdan Trophy and Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Trophy.
“The only setback is the fact that there are no many Arabian horses in Europe to support our efforts. We have been planning a big event in Kentucky, USA but we came to know that there are no sufficient horses for the race.
“We have successfully secured 14 horses from Shaikh Hamdan’s stables for Newbury otherwise we would have been in trouble. “The real challenge right now is not to host or sponsor races, but to encourage breeding as well. The breeding of Arabian horses in Europe comes last due to the marketing complications in the industry’s scale of priorities,” he said. “It’s a national pride for us to see the flag of the UAE flying in the skies of Europe. The series of the President Cup for Purebred Arabian horses have positively contributed to the promotion of the image of this noble creature. It’s not a matter of a beautiful horse which is acquired for its beauty and stamina alone, but it has the qualities and speed of a racing horse,” he said. Al Sayegh noted that most of the European-based Purebred Arabian horses take part in the series and the owners, trainers and jockeys have the strong feeling that very soon the Purebred Arabian horse will become a major player in the racing community.
“We are all proud by the UAE move to carry the image of the Purebred Arabian horse to the highest heights,” he said.
“This is part of our history, culture and civilisation and we are proud to see this effort paying dividends,” he said.
