A new device that can alert health authorities as well as the relatives of heart patients has been developed in-house by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHP).
The device will send alerts about the heart pulse rate of the patient to relatives and health bodies which will help the patient get medical help on time.
Called 'You are Safe' or HREC, the medical heartbeat monitoring device has many features. Most importantly, it can send SMS to five different recipients - the emergency centre; the National Ambulance; nearest health centre, and two family members of the patients.
The SMS contains information about the patient such as the heart pulse rate, patient's identification number and geographical location. It also shows who the patient is closest to so that the patient can approach him/her and to get first aid or hospital help.
Based on the patient data and if it shows that the patient's health is not stable, the emergency centre can also dispatch an ambulance after monitoring his heart rate for 30 minutes or less. The centre can also contact the patient and guide him/her on how to act in such a situation and if the patient is stable, the centre will not dispatch an ambulance.
Dr Yousuf Mohamed Al Serkal, assistant undersecretary for hospitals sector, said the device 'You are Safe' has been created by the ministry. "The new heart pulse monitoring device cost the ministry no additional budget," he said on the sidelines of the Arab Health 2018.
"This invention is part of the ministry's effort aimed at providing total and integrated healthcare in an innovative and sustainable manner to build quality therapeutic health safety systems as per world standards and norms," Al Serkal said.
Rehab Ismail Ahmed, assistant programmer of IT department, who invented the device said it was easy to use and the patient will feel safe and confident using it. Talking about the advantages of the medical invention, Rehab said the device enables medical help to reach as quickly as possible.
"The device can also facilitate quick admission of the patient to the hospital without the need for a long wait at the emergency room for registration. The apparatus provides the hospital with all key information of the patient before the latter reaches it," Rehab pointed out.
This also will help the medical team at the hospital allocate a bed the ICU or a normal room, all depends on the patient's health condition, she added.
