An ex-armed services man became the first candidate to enter nomination for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections in Fujairah on Sunday.
The first day has seen registration of 13 candidates in the emirate. Ahmed Ali Obaid Al Hafiti, approached election committee at the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry to submit credentials in the early hours of the first day of nominations. As many as 10,887 registered voters will cast their ballot in the scheduled Oct. 3 polls in the emirate.
Al Hafiti, who retired from the UAE Armed Forces in 2009, said: "The elections are the gift of the prudent leadership to its faithful people."
Al Hafiti, the deputy executive-director of Al Sharq (Orient) Health Care Company in Fujairah, was conferred on with BSC in health care management from US in 1991. He has also obtained a master's degree in the management of medical services and hospitals from UK in 1997. -salah@khaleejtimes.com
