Keep close watch for hole-in-one winner

Dubai - The Dubai Desert Classic enjoys a pretty decent record of 25 holes in one, including nine at the seventh hole, in 26 events.

An exquisite hole-in-one prize of a luxury Omega watch will be on offer when the Dubai Desert Classic gets under way at Emirates Golf Club from February 4 to 7.
As the title sponsor of the longest-running European Tour event in the region, Omega will present an exclusive Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Master Co-Axial to the first golfer to ace the par-3, seventh hole at the Majlis course.
Best known in the sports marketing world for its role as official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, the Swiss luxury watchmaker has been associated with the 'Major of the Middle East,' as the tournament is fondly referred to, for a long time, first coming on board as partner and official timekeeper before assuming the role of the title sponsor in 2009.
"The partnership with Golf in Dubai provides us with a fantastic platform to develop our brand in the region's booming market and show the world we are a leading player in this sport," said Raynald Aeschlimann, Omega's Vice President and International Sales Director.
"A thrill for everyone, the hole-in-one prize will certainly be a talking point among players and will help draw a big gallery to the hole. It will be interesting to see which lucky golfer walks away with the wristwatch that features an 18K red gold and stainless steel case," he added.
The odds of a professional golfer making a hole in one on a par-3 hole are closer to 2,500 to 1, but the Dubai Desert Classic enjoys a pretty decent record of 25 holes in one, including nine at the seventh hole, in 26 events.
With a gleaming lake stretching from the front edge of the tee to the green's apron, the par-3, seventh, measuring 186 yards, is a great vantage point for spectators. Germany's Martin Kaymer was the last to ace the hole, a feat he achieved in 2012.
