HOW LONG HAS it been since you had a night out at the theatre? While you may have ventured out for a comedy show, or maybe even a movie, an evening of serious acting has so far eluded many. This weekend that is about to change.

The Glass Menagerie is one of the 20th century's most popular plays. Written by the prolific Tennessee Williams, this riveting piece is set in St. Louis, Missouri in the post-Depression era. It follows the impoverished Wingfield family: Tom, an aspiring poet condemned to work in a shoe factory in order to keep the family afloat; his painfully shy, disabled sister Laura, who lives in her own dreamworld, escaping their harsh reality by looking after a glass menagerie of glass animal figurines and finally their mother Amanda, a faded southern belle who longs for the past and laments the husband who left her.

The play is presented by Danú Theatre, directed and produced by Pádraig Downey and features an impressive cast including Gwen Watson in the titular role of Amanda. It's on at The Junction Theatre, Alserkal Avenue from October 22-24 with evening showings at 7.30pm and matinees on the 23 and 24 at 3pm. Tickets are available at https://ae.bookmyshow.com
