The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) is a tenant at Al Rayyana, a Sorouh residential development in Khalifa City A.

The residents evacuated their homes after Al Rayyana’s courtyard caved in on October 30, damaging eight vehicles in the underground car park. No one was, however, hurt in the incident.

The Adec released a statement saying suitable alternative accommodation had been found in Sorouh in ‘secured housing solutions’, though it did not disclose the location of the new accommodation. The moving process, expected to take about two weeks, began last Thursday.

An Adec source has confirmed that the teachers are moving in to other Sorouh residential properties.

The Adec previously circulated a memorandum to all affected teachers about their shifting with exact timings and details within a three-day period. Teachers and their families were divided into groups of 15, with a new group moving in each day. An Adec official will be at hand to assist the families.

Executive Director of Adec’s Support Services Sector Salem Al Sayari said Adec’s priority was to ensure its teachers and their families were safely re-allocated to a new housing in a timely manner. “We realise that the incident was inconvenient and sudden, that’s why we took instant action to help our teachers feel comfortable and at ease,” he said, adding that all parties were “pleased with the selection of their new residence”.
