Pak varsity to attract students from UAE

A new University in Pakistan promises to usher in better higher education for students from the region. Habib University, developed at a cost of $60 million in Karachi will offer students courses in liberal arts and sciences.

Starting in the fall of 2014, from a seven-acre campus in Karachi, the university is being promoted as a world-class centre for learning with formal partnership agreements with leading international universities. The university has already signed collaboration agreements with Texas A&M University in Qatar and Carnegie Mellon University, USA for reciprocal sharing of institutional experience.

“Habib University is linked to leading higher education institutions from around the world for collaborative advancement of new knowledge and to ensure we meet the highest international standards from the very onset,” said President of Habib University, Wasif Rizvi.

Developed by the Habib University Foundation, the distinctive liberal arts and sciences university will provide a well-rounded education to outstanding students from Pakistan and the region. The university intends to open its representative office soon in Dubai to attract regional students and will be participating in all the major education fairs in the UAE.

Classes will be offered in Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science; Social Development & Policy, and Communication Studies & Design, through its two Schools.

Chairman of the Board and Chancellor of Habib University, Rafiq M Habib said: “We are well on our way to achieving our goal of building a world class university that will educate promising students irrespective of their backgrounds. We hope that in time Habib University will be the institution of choice in Pakistan.”

Faculty from the top international academic institutions such as Harvard, Columbia, Cornell and UPENN will teach at the university. It also plans to offer more disciplines in the future and build a residential campus as well, aspiring to attract a large number of students from the region.
