Hamdan orders scholarships for 20 students

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of the Hamdan bin Mohammed e-University, has ordered to provide scholarships to 20 outstanding high school students to pursue their academic studies in the university.

Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in Chief of the Dubai Police and Chairman of the university’s Board of Governors, thanked Shaikh Hamdan for his gesture which “reflects the value of distinction and excellence and motivates the youth to perform”.

The Hamdan bin Mohammed e-University announced that it has started accepting applications. The 20 eligible students will be selected based on their grades.

Girls outshine boys in Grade 12 exams

The students of government schools beat their fellow students in private schools in the Class 12 annual examinations this year.

The results announced by the Ministry of Education at a Press conference on Wednesday showed that 96.27 per cent of the science group students and 89.74 per cent of the arts group students of government schools passed the exams as compared to 89.41 per cent of science group and 79.91 per cent of arts group students of private schools.

Ali Mayhad Al Suwaidi, acting Undersecretary, Ministry of Education, presented detailed statistics on the exam results. In the science group, girls scored a pass rate of 96.06 per cent, as compared to 90.94 per cent of boys. In the arts group, girls’ pass rate was 90.52 per cent while that of boys was 85.15 per cent.

Al Suwaidi appreciated the efforts of all employees and others involved in making the examination process run smoothly. He praised the high standard of preparations at the schools, whose managements provided healthy environment for students during the examinations. He also lauded the media for its role in creating awareness among the students.
