Around 255 candidates attended interviews spread over four days this week.

According to Adec Director-General Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, the council is keen to “nationalise” various teaching positions in public schools. These include Kindergarten, Field 1, Physical Education, Islamic Studies, Arabic, English, Lab Specialists, Science, Special Education, Mathematics, Social Studies, IT, Social Workers, Learning Resource Centres, Arts and Musical Education.

The Adec said these vacancies are available due to teachers resigning, retiring or getting transferred to other positions.

“National staff are being selected based on certain standards and criteria in order to ensure they provide our students with high-quality education,” he said.

The number of UAE nationals working in the education sector in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region currently stands at 6,881 or 47.5 per cent of the total education workforce.

“This number is expected to increase in 2013,” Dr Al Khaili stated.— olivia@khaleejtimes.com
