According to prosecution records, the defendant, a 31-year-old Emirati employee, met the Filipina woman at the building where she lived in Al Qusais. She was with her compatriot boyfriend on the ninth floor. The defendant posed as a police officer and showed them a photograph of him wearing the military uniform. He exchanged mobile numbers with the woman before taking her alone in his car. He then drove to the basement parking of another building where he raped her.

He faced charges of kidnap, rape, molestation and impersonation of a police officer at the Court of First Instance. The woman, a 29-year-old clerk, told the prosecutor that the defendant fooled her saying he was taking her to the police station on that day in January.

He stopped in the underground parking of a building in Al Qusais and asked her to sit in the back seat so that he could examine her. He threatened her and asked her to undress. It was dark and as she was scared she obeyed. He then raped her and told her not to inform anyone about the incident.

The roommate, a 29-year-old Filipina secretary, said that she had begged the defendant that day to leave the complainant and her boyfriend alone. But she had to leave her friend with him because he said he wanted to speak to her in private. She called her friend thrice later and thought she was fine. But the complainant returned about an hour later looking upset.

The complainant’s boyfriend said that the defendant saw them in the corridor and asked them whether they were married. The accused also told his girlfriend, who was wearing a short skirt, that such clothes were not allowed here and that he would take them into police custody. The defendant also asked for their labour cards.

He learnt that his girlfriend had been raped only when he was called for testimony at the police station.— mary@khaleejtimes.com
