The four-year imprisonment sentence of an Arab man, 33, was upheld by the appeals court on Tuesday after he was found guilty of using hashish. The court also upheld the deportation order handed down by the lower court.
According to court records, the man was detained by the security in Fujairah as he was found walking around in an odd manner. When he was subjected to medical tests it was revealed that he was on drugs.
The case file was referred to the public prosecution which charged the man with using narcotics. The criminal court condemned the man to four years in jail to be followed by deportation. The court also ordered seizure of the narcotics found with the accused.
Being dissatisfied with the court verdict, the accused took the case up to the appeals court, which dismissed his plea and upheld the lower court's ruling.
