The case dates back to last year when the maid’s sponsor registered a complaint at the Al Qusais Police Station that she had gone out of her house for some work and on returning she found the door closed and the domestic servant missing. When the woman sponsor inspected her house, she discovered that her cupboard’s lock was broken, and Dh5,200 in cash was missing from her hand bag and drawer. She also reported a bag containing 1,000 copper coins, a gold necklace worth Dh18,000 and a gold chain worth Dh225, as well as three rings worth over Dh4,000 as missing.

The police apprehended the domestic help, identified as H.Q.H.

On questioning, the maid alleged that she came across the items she stole when she was looking for her passport in her sponsor’s cupboard.

The police referred the accused to the public prosecution before which the maid confessed to the theft. The prosecution then raised charges of theft and damaging movable objects, which belong to her sponsor, against the housemaid. The domestic help was referred to the Dubai criminal court to stand trial.
