The jail term was handed down on Monday by the Dubai Criminal Court after the four were found guilty of the robbery which took place in the Al Qusais second industrial area.

In its arraignment levelled against the suspects, the Public Prosecution said the accused, including one at large, solicited the help of workers and a driver, to load the stolen electronics, after convincing them that the materials belonged to them. Investigations showed that the suspects arrived at the warehouse at 1am, smashed the locks on the doors, then replaced them with new ones in a bid to cover up the crime when workers arrived for duty the next morning. The suspects had used the workers in making off with 80 per cent of the electrical equipment, a total of 3626 AC’s, TV’s, washing machines and cameras among other items.

In his testimony, the driver of the vehicle which transported the stolen materials, said the suspect at large asked him to transport the electrical tools from the warehouse for Dh400 a each trip. He told the Public Prosecution that the same suspect arrived at the warehouse and his accomplices broke the lock of the door but he had no idea that the process was a burglary.

“The suspects had transported the equipment in two trips to a villa belonging to them, and every worker was paid Dh75 each for loading and unloading the stolen items.”

In a statement to the Public Prosecution, a Second Lieutenant at Dubai Police said the search and investigation led to the identity of the driver of the pickup, who was arrested later. He showed the Police the villa where the stolen items were unloaded and stored. Police raided the place, and apprehended four of the suspects, while the fifth, the kingpin of the burglary is still at large.
