The three-strong flotilla had been due to sail on Friday from ports in Turkey with more than 5,000 tonnes of aid on board
Perera took five for 10 from his five overs to skittle out Model School for 83 to steer his team to a 28-run win in the Group B at the ADCC grounds on Thursday.
Model winning the toss and electing to field first managed to restrict Al Nahda to 111 with S Aakash returning with excellent figures of five for 11 from his five overs.
Al Nahda were in a sound position at 61 for one in the ninth over until Mohammed Shija broke what looked like a threatening second wicket partnership between Perera and Faraz Imran, after the pair had added 49.
Perera departed for 25 but Imran stroked a breezy 44 off 36 deliveries. The captain hit half-a-dozen fours and a six, but not of the other batsmen were able to get into double, their inning folding up with an over left.
Model in reply couldn’t do better after the dismissal of the opener Omer Mohammed, run out for 27. He has been the backbone of their batting, having top scored in both, the open age group and Under-16 competition.
Brief scores:
Open age group: Al Nahda National School bt Model School by 28 runs. Al Nahda 111 all out in 24 overs (Udara Perera 25, Faraz Imran 44, Mohammed Shija 2-10, S.Aakash 5-11). Model 83 all out in 23.5 overs (Omer Mohammed 27, Shinas Nahas 16 not out, Udara Perera 5-10, Asad Abbas 2-8). Man of the match: Udara Perera of Al Nahda.
