How do you feel about being nominated in the Best Actor category for Parey Hut Love?
It's an amazing feeling to be recognised for one's work. The Pakistani film industry is still in nascency and due to the lack of structure we usually have to go beyond the call of duty. This translates into long work hours and difficult shooting schedules and conditions. We end up neglecting our personal lives and after all the hard work that goes into a project we agree to bare our souls to the world, all in the name of passion. No amount of money can justify the struggle and so a "Nod" goes a long way in building an artist's morale.
Who are your favourites among the PISA nominees?
All my favourites are nominated this year. I'm especially rooting for Asim Raza in the Best Director category, Maya Ali in the Best Actress category, Ahmed Ali Butt for Best Supporting Actor, Zara for Best Supporting Actress and obviously Parey Hut Love for best film. (Obviously I have my biases but I feel they are justified given all the talent in the above paragraph)!
What are your thoughts on Dubai and attending PISA here?
Dubai is a sweetheart and has always been kind to me. From winning awards to getting a lot of love and support, Dubai has always been there for me and so it's always a pleasure coming back here. As for PISA, I'm very excited to be part of the first edition. Everything has been on point so far and I look forward to seeing PISA grow over the coming years.
How important are award shows for the film and television industry?
Very important. As I mentioned earlier, no amount of money can justify the pains we go through as artists but a "Nod" goes a long way.
