Volumes cross 1 million-mark

DUBAI - Major market indices advanced yesteday supported by rising volumes, which crossed the one million shares mark.

At the DFM, there was trading on six counters with National Bank of Dubai being the only gainer rising 40 fils to Dh96.40 on three trades of 10,250 shares.

Commercial Bank of Dubai declined 50 fils to Dh72.60, while Dubai Islamic Bank slipped 75 fils to Dh25.15 on 19 trades of 117,279 shares, valued at Dh2.95 million and Emaar finished with losses of 20 fils at Dh22.30 on 31 trades of 77,009 shares, valued at Dh1.71 million. Shuaa and Dubai Investments remained unchanged for the day, while the total DFM volume was reported at 270,040 shares, which were valued at over Dh6.17 million.

On the ADSM Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank slipped 20 fils to Dh54.80, while Al Khazna Insurance fell Dh1 to Dh115 and Abu Dhabi Aviation closed with losses of 10 fils at Dh64.50. Etisalat advanced Dh2 to Dh130 on a volume of 35,446 shares, valued at Dh4.6 million, while Abu Dhabi National Hotels advanced Dh1.50 to Dh93.50, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank was up 15 fils to Dh16.90, Al Wathba Insurance rose five fils to Dh3.20, Emirates Insurance appreciated Dh1.90 to Dh93.90 and Al Waha finished with gains of three fils at Dh5.64.

The National Bank of Abu Dhabi Emirates Stock Markets Index (NBAD ESMI), which tracks DFM and ADSM listed shares, advanced 6.85 points to 1,436.17 as the NBAD ESMI service sector index rose 11.85 points to 1,106.27. The NBAD ESMI banking sector index declined 2.19 points to 1,647.06 and the NBAD ESMI insurance sector index finished with losses of 4.25 points at 1,202.48.

Emirates Financial Services (EFS) reported trading in five shares on the OTC market. Asmak declined 50 fils to Dh5 on a volume of 431,200 shares, which were valued at over Dh2.15 million and National Bank of Sharjah rose 18 fils to Dh8.18 on a volume of 248,154 shares, valued at over Dh2.02 million. Abu Dhabi National Insurance remained unchanged at Dh95 on a volume of 8,000 shares, while Bank of Sharjah advanced Dh1.50 to Dh22 and Investbank finished with gains of Dh1 at Dh32 on a volume of 16,038 shares.

Emnex was up 12.76 points to 2,339.61. The financial services sub-index rose 7.24 points to 2,633.65, while the insurance sub-index advanced 2.04 points to 1,324.33 and the telecom sub-index finished with gains of 17.74 points at 1,219.94. The Islamic sub-index declined 5.62 points to 1,009.83 and the property sub-index fell 5.65 points to 842.41.

The NBAD market review listed five movers on the OTC market with Abu Dhabi Co-operative Society and National Bank of Ras Al Khaimah rising Dh2 each to close at Dh110 and Dh36 respectively. Bank of Sharjah and InvestBank were both up Dh1.50 to close at Dh22 and Dh34 respectively, while Manasek declined 25 fils to Dh2.

The NBAD general index advanced 25.47 points to 3,562.8. The NBAD banking sector index rose 17.3 points to 3,655.94, while the NBAD service sector index was up 45.03 points to 4,224.18 and the NBAD insurance sector index finished with losses of 5.72 points at 2,705.26.

EFS reported the cumulative market volume at more than 1.34 million shares, which were valued at over Dh27.16 million.
