Summertime is officially here - which means that if you have sensitive skin, you may notice that your skin breaks out more. The beauty of a Korean skincare routine is that it works extremely well in hotter climates. Naturally, as the temperature rises, our body produces sweat which, if not cleansed properly, can immediately lead to a breakout.
Here's all you need to know to keep your skin clean:
. Get rid of eyeshadow, waterproof mascara and lip stains with a makeup remover. Then, remove makeup, sunscreen, sebum and environmental impurities with an oil cleanser, balm or cleansing water.

. Wash the remaining impurities by cleansing with a water-based cleanser or a foam cleanser. Cleansing your face will also remove excess oil from the skin. You want to start from the T-zone area, which is most prone to acne, and slowly work your way to the dryer parts. Massage skin gently in circular motions; rinse with warm water.

. Exfoliate to remove dead skin. This can be done by physically scrubbing away the dead skin with some grain-based scrubs, depending on your skin type. You want to make sure you exfoliate 1-2 times a week. Consult a professional to select the right exfoliating product for you.

. A toner removes all the impurities left behind on your skin after a wash. It also balances out the pH levels of your skin. By wiping away these impurities, you can prevent acne and future breakouts. There are many types of toners but a favourite would be the COSRX wet cotton pads that you can use twice a day on your face and neck. Use your toner after washing your face properly and before applying any moisturiser.

. Essence is crucial for any Korean skincare routine. After cleaning and toning your skin, apply essence evenly all over your face and neck by using your hand or a cotton pad. Essence is a little creamier than toner and contains higher levels of active ingredients that penetrate deep into the skin. A good essence will ensure your skin is left fully hydrated. Alternatively, a serum can be used, as it's made up of smaller molecules and penetrates deep into the skin. Apply the product after cleansing - but before moisturising - to deliver maximum results.

. Everyone needs to moisturise their skin - even if it is oily. Use the right product for your skin type that will combat excess oil production and nourish skin. Skipping moisturiser is not recommended during summer, as skin needs to be well-hydrated, especially when outdoors. Moisturisers restore hydration and protect skin. They come in different forms - from emulsions, lotions and gels to creams and sleeping packs - so pick your fancy.

. What is K-beauty without a good sheet mask? Sheet masks have a high concentration of actives and can assist in delivering those ingredients deeper into your skin. Most sheet masks contain Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants as main ingredients. Sheet masks also block environmental factors that can damage the lipid layer of skin and act as a barrier against pollution and bacteria.

. Wear sunscreen every day. It will prevent premature ageing and reduce the risk of skin cancer. You want to ensure that you apply sunscreen every 2-3 hours to constantly protect your skin from the sun's rays.
