I have been suffering from eating disorders for a very long time. Part of it is because I have often been body-shamed, and feel guilty whenever I’m eating something that’s delicious. How can I overcome this? Rose

Dear Rose, thank you for having the courage to reach out about your eating disorder. I feel for you when you tell me about being body shamed and feeling guilty about eating foods you enjoy.

When an eating disorder has persisted over a long period of time, it is important to get good professional care. Working with a counsellor will help you uncover and address the underlying causes of your eating disorder, enabling you to have a healthy relationship with food. You will also learn to identify your triggers and learn to substitute healthy behaviours for your unhealthy eating. There are counsellors and clinics specialised in treating eating disorders.

You did not specify what eating disorder you have, but please keep in mind that all can be detrimental to your mental and physical health. Eating disorders are very hard on the body and they have to be taken very seriously.
