Engineer Khalifa Al Falasi, Director of the buildings department at the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department (AMPD), said that people who wanted to construct a temporary shed outside their villas should get prior permission from the civic body.

"During a survey conducted recently, 200 violations were found regarding car parking sheds outside the villas as those were built without prior permission. “We have informed the villa owners that Dh 5,000 fine will be imposed on them if they fail to remove these sheds. Electricity supply to their homes could also be disconnected if the people refuse to abide by the order," he said.

Al Falasi said that the decision to remove all outside canopies and roofs came under a local order issued by Shaikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Director of the AMPD.

"Canopies can be placed outside villas after receiving approval from the Planning Department specifying the land area where the shed is to be constructed. It should be made of light but strong material that can withstand changing weather conditions.

“These should never be made of aluminum or concrete and should be made within the assigned area on one side of the villa wall," Al Falasi stressed.

He also noted that the roofing should be beige in colour and should be constructed according to the specified colour and shape decided by the civic body.

"We have already informed all people living on Al Jarf and Mushairaf area about the new law in addition to placing advertisements in daily newspapers,” Al falasi added.
