Two Britons free of fraud charges

DUBAI — The Dubai Court of Appeal has acquitted two British citizens — 43-year-old Keneb Navin and 49-year old Herman R. — from embezzlement of Dh16.6 million. Fadi M., a wealthy man, had submitted before the court that he gave the two accused the authority to manage a partnership company and invest his money in profitable ways. Fadi complained to the police that his partners had fabricated the financial statement for the fiscal year 2002/2003. They showed that the company had suffered losses. The Court of First Instance had acquitted the two accused and rejected Fadi’s complaint.

The court noted that Fadi failed to provide evidence or documents to prove his accusation that his partners had misappropriated, stolen or mismanaged his wealth. The Court of Appeal upheld the verdict and acquitted the two Britons.

Alafaq, the advocate for the two Britons, said that all documents provided to the court confirmed that his clients were not guilty. They had a partnership with Fadi in six companies in Dubai, and each partner had an equal share of 33 per cent.

The court rejected the appeal provided by the General Prosecution and acquitted the two Britons.
