The event is being held under the patronage of His HighnessShaikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is being held in collaboration with the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), the Ministry of Economy and trhe Emirates Authority for Standardisation & Metrology (ESMA). Other bodies taking part include the Hamriyah Free Zone Authority, the Sharjah Businesswomen Council, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs and a number of local and federal government departments. The announcement was made during a press conference attended by Hussein Mohammed Al Mahmoudi, Director-General, SCCI; Neil Hickman, from the Sharjah Expo Centre; Mohammed Ahmed Amin, the Assistant Director General of Economic and International Affairs, SCCI, and the head of the organising committee for the exhibition, and representatives from SEDD, ESMA and the Sharjah Media Corporation. Through the ‘Made in Sharjah’ initiative, the SCCI aims to attract international investors and visitors and to establish Sharjah as a leading economic hub in the UAE and the Middle East. It will seek to promote local products and to draw attention to the favourable local investment climate, low production costs, the availability of capital resources and of qualified manpower and the competitive local pricing structure. It is also hoped to promote the development of strategic partnerships between local and foreign manufacturers, exporters and importers, which will support the growth of Sharjah’s industrial sector. The SCCI says that so far this year, Dh 8 billion has been invested in the local industrial sector, which employs a total of 82,000 workers. Speaking at the press conference, the SCCI Director General said: ‘The ‘Made in Sharjah’ Expo celebrates the excellence and industrial growth of Sharjah, positioning the emirate as a major destination for industrial development in the UAE. Through the vision of His HighnessShaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and the successful economic policy set by His HighnessShaikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, the Emirate has been able to adopt best practices that have helped ensure the continued growth of the industrial sector. We have been therefore very keen in organising the exhibition in line with our plans and strategies for 2010, which include the implementation of programs that promote the growth potential of the Emirate. Furthermore, we aim to open opportunities in the area of industrial investment and to provide technical and consultancy services and funding facilities for all investors. We look forward to realising Sharjah’s long-term goals by promoting confidence in local products and bringing the local economy to a new level of excellence.’ The exhibition will display products and services from different industry sectors, including food and beverage, woodworks and furniture, home and industrial chemical products, building materials, fabrics, printing and publishing, non-metallic raw materials, machinery and manufacturing equipment, cement and rapid concrete. Five stands have been allocated for projects of participants in the ‘Leaders’ programe, while another five are for government departments. Four stands will feature humanitarian services with another four for projects launched by businesswomen. Industrial enterprises participating in the permanent exhibition of national industrial products at the Chamber’s premises can take part in the ‘Made in Sharjah’ exhibition without charge. The ‘Made in Sharjah’ programme allows participants to promote and advertise their products and to receive support for product development, including the right to use the trademark ‘Made in Sharjah’.
