Hundreds of cyclists of all ages, nationalities and abilities took part in the eighth edition of The Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road, on Friday at the Dubai Sport City (DSC).
The free event offered three routes: 5km, 10km and the more challenging 20km stretch. It has become a must-do cycling event for Dubai residents, families and keen cyclists alike. As a matter of fact, more than 5,500 cyclists have participated in the event since its inception in 2013.
DSC president Khalid Al Zarooni, a keen cyclist himself, said:
"Cycling in the UAE has gained tremendous popularity in recent years and I am delighted that The Great Dubai Pulse Ride - Off Road has contributed to that growth."
"We have created an opportunity for families and cycling enthusiasts to come together and enjoy an off-road cycling experience in a safe, secure environment and are now seeing those who took part in the 5km or 10km growing in confidence and progressing by taking part in the 20km challenge," he added.
"Participation in the Dubai Pulse Ride and our events across DSC have been growing year-on-year and it is fantastic to see that this event is set to be our biggest and best yet. Cycling is a huge part of Dubai Sports City's culture and I would like to see this increase in the future."
To add more excitement to the event, more than Dh10,000 prizes were offered by DSC and The Cycle Hub. Those who did not take to their bikes, meanwhile, had fun at several family-friendly activities which took place at the Sports Village, where there were bouncy castles, kids' art and crafts and a local market zone.
The Great Dubai Pulse - Off Road is a collaboration between DSC, a 50-million square feet mixed-use development built around five major sports venues, and the Dubai Sports Council to showcase the benefits of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
