Mohammed Khalifa bin Tarish, Director-General of Water Directorate of Sewa, stressed that the residents of Sharjah would not face water scarcity this summer as new projects worth Dh40 million would ensure improved networks and better water distribution in all parts of Sharjah.

He explained that the projects include the launch of a new four- kilometre water distribution line from the main water desalination plant in Alliah area to feed areas between Al Jubail and Al Fisht.

“This line has been completed in two phases and will be operational during the next week,” he added.

The first phase of the line mainly would solve water scarcity in Al Jubail, Al Guwair, Al Nabbah, Al Shuwihain, Al Butainah, Sharqan, Qadisia, and Al Fisht, Al Ghafia, Um Khnour, Al Nakhilat, Al Mirqab and Al Nasseriya.

The official said that Sewa also installed equipment to monitor the pressure of water in the network.

“This equipment will notify the control room about water shortage in any area and solve it immediately,” he added.

Bin Tarish also pointed out that Sewa had recently completed the Dh40 million Halwan Dam project which would be able to store 15 million gallon of water that would be pumped to Sharjah during the peak hours.

“This is in addition to the old dam which has a capacity of storing only 5million gallons per day,” he explained.

He added that the Sharjah Industrial areas would not be affected by water shortage any more as launch of the Dh5 million water line, starting from Al Badie plant to increase water pressure, is under construction and will be fully operational in the first week of July.

Regarding water quality, Tarish said the new line was currently being linked to Al Ghadffa plant in Al Ain city to be connected to Shoukah, Hamda, and Al Badie plants to supply seven million gallons of water daily. “This additional water will gradually reduce salinity in the water during this summer,” he added.

He urged consumers to conserve water and asked building and villa owners to provide extra water tanks to solve problems and repair faults as soon as possible.
