Somehow even though it's been over a decade since Tom Ford was creative director of Gucci, you still think of his glam rock take on fashion, when you think of the couture house. Frida Giannini took over from him and till January of 2015 was the creative head of one of Italy's best-loved brands. Her collections were safe, commercial and drew from the archives in a very modern way. But Gucci lost the edge it was known for and soon the brand was in plateau mode. This year Gucci's powers felt it was time for a new era and promoted Alessandro Michele to be the new creative director.
Yesterday, Alessandro took to the ramp for the second time as a Gucci's creative head. At the opening show of Milan Fashion Week, Gucci dazzled in a more feminine and retro yet raw and eclectic light. It sure seems like the luxury fashion brand is once again setting the fashion agenda. The Spring/Summer 2016 collection had all the punch and power one expects from Gucci, yet this prettier, geekier approach to style has given the house a fresh take on Italian glamour.

The collection, of pussy bow blouses, geek glasses, map prints, floral embroidered biker jackets, with a heavy use of snake as a motif, seemed very fitting. The snake as a spiritual animal represents change, transition and increased energy.  And there is a definitely a new energy at Gucci!
