The 18-year-old was taken to hospital in a serious condition
On Wednesday night, local police came across the partially-charred remains of 14-year-old Jithu Job in an area close to his home. The body was discovered by the boy's father.
The father had filed a complaint at the police station on Monday alleging that his son has gone missing. According to the complaint, the boy had gone to the market but never returned.
Police say that they suspect some internal issues in the family as the motive. However, it would take a detailed probe to reveal the actual facts.
During the interrogation, the mother explained how she tightened her shawl around the boy's neck and after confirming the death, she allegedly burned the body.
While probing the complaint, the police officers noticed a burn mark on the right hand of the mother which raised suspicion.
