From August 1, the Abu Dhabi Heritage Village will display the Emirate's traditions and customs at the ongoing Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS).
Dalmook Al Muhairy, in charge of the promotion, told Khaleej Times that the exhibition will also coincide with the beginning of DSS Hertiage Week from August 17 to 23.
"This is good timing for us and it should bring in as many visitors as possible," said Al Muhairy.
The event is designed for both UAE nationals, especially the young generation, who would like to know more about the old way of life in the Emirates, as well as tourists interested in the history and culture of the UAE.
According to Al Muhairy, for this exhibition the Village has several movable old-style houses, made from palm fronds.
"We are going to make a complete replica of a small village," he explained.
There will be on-the-spot traditional cooking, over an open fire, which the visitors will be able to sample. On display will be various domestic objects, used by bedouins, farmers and sailors.
In the women's quarters, visitors will be able to watch ladies at work, making carpets and dresses.
The men will entertain the guest with traditional songs and dances.
All these activities, on a much larger scale, will also be witnessed in Abu Dhabi from October 1.
"Every Thursday evening we will have a festival with singing, dancing, cooking and craft making," said Al Muhairy.
Over this summer, the Heritage Village is working hard to improve its image.
For the first time since it opened, it will display rare costumes made of pure silk as well as bridal dresses, typical of Emirates. There is also a new souk being built, where craftsmen and merchants will produce and sell daggers, textiles, spices and many other objects connected with the heritage of the Emirates.
