Saif Salim Al Shamisi, deputy director of Ajman Municipality, said the civic body carries out the inspections throughout the year, but it intensifies the campaign in Ramadan.

He said the inspection campaigns also target abattoirs and fish markets, as well as small traditional food shops.

Al Shamsi pointed out that in Ramadan, inspectors and supervisors move in the city during the time day to ensure that all restaurants and cafes are closed. “Ramadan is the Muslim month of fasting and and it’s illegal to eat, drink or smoke in public from sunrise to sunset in this period,” he pointed out.
