The facility will help Dubai Airport cope with increasing passenger traffic demand and keep high quality service, according to Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths.

Al Majlis VIP facility, featuring 17 private lounges, duty free shops and limousine service to and from the plane, served nearly 70,000 customers in 2007 and achieved sales revenue of Dh33 million. About 85,000 passengers are expected this year.

"A dedicated, state-of-the-art facility for Al Majlis means that we have the additional capacity and the latest in technology to enable us to serve our customers better," Griffiths said.

Al Majlis has attracted individual and corporate groups seeking premium services and has been especially popular with Russians, Emiratis and GCC citizens.

In April alone, nearly 400 Russians used the facility, followed by 333 Emiratis, and 148 Saudis.

The facility is especially popular with families, with more than 550 families or nearly 2,000 passengers, arriving and departing in the month of April.

Family guests are assigned a female personal assistant upon arrival.

Griffiths said Al Majlis would also help ease congestion during the peak summer rush when more than 11 million passengers are expected to arrive and depart from Dubai International Airport.

Griffiths said measures taken to ease travel during summer were proceeding well.

"We've had a higher number of compliments in the six weeks of this summer than the same time last year," Griffiths said.

Measures include providing more check-in and immigration counters. Tips were also given to passengers, including buying e-gate and using the increased e-gate facilities.
