The council has been formed to encourage and develop scientific research not only in the UAE but throughout the Islamic world, and also to establish dialogue and build bridge between Islamic and Western civilisations, Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, Director-General of DIACA, told Khaleej Times yesterday.

The council, through its publications, will play a great role in correcting the misconceptions about Islam and Arab in the West.

The council’s tasks include reviewing of scientific research papers by Islamic scholars and academics in the Muslim world and publish them, Dr Al Shaibani said.

A panel of judges will be formed to select the best research paper which will be awarded.

The council will establish links with the universities and Islamic scientific centres in the world in the field of research.

The council will encourage and support translation of Islamic studies to other languages to enhance communication with others. It will also organise Islamic scientific conferences, fora and exhibitions.

The council was formed on the instructions of Dr Al Shaibani, who himself is the chairman. Dr Mohammed Ahmed Al Qurashi has been appointed deputy chairman, and Dr Ahmed Al Hadad, Dr Ahmed Rahmani, Dr Izz Al Deen in Zughaiba and Omar Al Khateem have been appointed members of the council.

The council includes scholars from the DIACA and outside who will meet once in a month.
