Cyclone Kyarr has resulted in high waves hitting Karachi's coastal areas, with water entering inland.

Several Pakistani news outlets reported that seawater had entered coastal localities of Karachi after a tidal surge was witnessed due to the cyclone intensifying in the Arabian Sea.

Coastal localities and villages of Lath Basti, Rehman Para, Rehri Goth and others have been inundated and the residents have called upon the government for assistance, The Express Tribune reported.

Water also entered parts of DHA Golf Club in Phase 8, the report added.

According to weather advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the cyclone has been categorised as a 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm' (VSCS) and is currently centred around approximately 745km.

According to Jang reports cited in Geo TV, close to 185 houses have been affected and more than 500 people have been evacuated so far. The water had started entering Ibrahim Hyderi locality of the city on Sunday night.
