Capital gears up for biggest science fest

The sixth Abu Dhabi Science Festival (ADSF), organised by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), will begin on Thursday.
The 10-day event will be staged at the Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Zoo. The festival, which is expected to be the biggest in its history, will see about 40 per cent of the activities and workshops hosted by local companies.
The events Adec chairman of the innovation committee and acting division manager, knowledge management division, Sanad Humaid Ahmed, said science, technology and innovation are key pillars of the creation of a knowledge economy in the UAE.
"We believe that exciting activities such as those at ADSF will empower children with the right skills for tomorrow's crucial key industry needs. We are actively working to support the growth of STEM education companies in the UAE."
The event, which is part of the UAE Innovation Week, has increased this year by 20 per cent with more drop-in activities. There will be 67 activities in total - up from last year's 56 activities.
