The ATA will be launched under the instruction of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The ATA is aimed at enhancing cooperation between the theatre organisations of the Arab countries.

At a meeting held in his office with the board directors of the UAE Theatre Association, Dr Shaikh Sultan promised the Arab theatre bodies to provide the moral and financial support to launch the ATA, which would help the Arab theatre to restore its glory in the world of art.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Abdulla Al Owais, director-general of the Sharjah Department of Culture and information (SDCI), said that a committee had been set up, which included two representatives of SDCI aside from celebrated Arab theatre artists.

Sharjah is set to host a grand meeting of theatre bodies which will include top theatre personalities from the Arab world.

Ismail Abdullah, president of the UAE Theatre Association, told Khaleej Times that the ATA will soon announce a mega Arab theatre event.
