17-yr-old to die for rape of a minor

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Criminal Court has sentenced the 17-year-old Yemeni national Tareq Saleh Mohammed to death for sodomising a 14-year-old UAE national Nour M. The victim’s father had informed the Sharjah Police on December 1 last year that Tareq had raped his son 18 months back. The police did not find the accused, so the court ruled him to death in his absence.

Later, the accused was arrested by the police during the police and the public prosecution interrogation. The accused denied the accusation and said that he knew the boy and once prevented him from playing football. The public prosecution charged him as per the Shariah law and Article No. 25 of the Criminal Law to a death sentence. The lawyer who was appointed by the court has appealed against the death sentence on the basis that the accused denied the accusation and said he was terrified and forced by the investigator to confess.

During the interrogation, the victim said that he met the accused one-and-a-half year ago and that he had forced him to have sex with him and threatened to inform his friend and father. The lawyer objected to why the father and the son did not inform the police earlier. The medical report has proved that the accused had multiple sex relations with others recently. The lawyer also asked for taking the age of the accused into account before sentencing him, as he was only 16 years old when the incident took place.
