High drama unfolded at the Andhra Pradesh assembly premises on Friday when firebrand legislator of the opposition YSR Congress Party R K Roja was prevented by the staff from entering the House despite the high court's order staying her suspension.
The YSRCP MLAs, led by leader of the opposition Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, staged an hour-long sit-in at the assembly premises to protest against what they called "muzzling the voice of the opposition through undemocratic means."
The high court had on Thursday set aside the resolution passed by the assembly suspending Roja for a period of one year. While granting the interim order on a petition filed by Roja, Justice A R Rao said that the suspended MLA was at liberty to attend the ongoing budget session of the assembly.
However, the TDP govt decided not to implement the order and challenge it before the division bench and filed a petition on Friday.
Armed with the court order, Roja on Friday arrived at the assembly gate and tried to enter the House. When the security staff prevented her, heated argument broke out between the opposition MLAs and the assembly staff.
