The celebrations at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) on Monday began with a ‘Loyalty March’ paying allegiance to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said led by Vice Chancellor Dr Ali bin Saud al Bimani, deputy vice chancellors, and senior academics and in which hundreds of students took part.

The largest national flag in the country, measuring 70 metres in length and 40 metres in width, was then unfurled near the university’s open air theatre. Selected students delivered messages of gratitude and appreciation to Sultan Qaboos. The day’s events ended with a poetry and musical evening organised by the Deanship of Student Affairs and an exhibition of photos by the university’s Photography Society displaying 40 major projects implemented in the country in the past four decades of rule by Sultan Qaboos. ravindranath@khaleejtimes.com
