Over Rs3tr budget outlay for next ?fiscal year

ISLAMABAD - The consolidated outlay of federal budget for next fiscal year is expected to be around Rs3.1 to 3.3 trillion.

The budget is likely to be presented in the National Assembly on May 28. The outlay has shot up after the Finance Division allowed seven per cent increase in the current budget (non-development expenditures) of the federal ministries and divisions.
Preparation of the federal budget for 2011-12 kickstarted with the meeting of Budget Priorities Committee here on Friday. The committee is co-chaired by Federal Secretary for Finance Dr Waqar Masud and Federal Secretary Planning and Development Sohail Ahmed.
The Finance Division has been planning to present the budget on May 28 in parliament.
The meetings of the committee that will continue till April 26 will analyse the expenditure and development budget estimates of ministries and departments their secretaries will present their estimates for the upcoming fiscal in the priority committee one by one.
According to the officials, the priorities committee is expected to approve Rs385 billion Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and other federal investments for the next fiscal year 2011-12.
This year’s PSDP was slashed from Rs280 billion to Rs180 billion due to the floods and other security-related expenses.
Moreover, Council of Common Interests will decide devolution of 230 projects under the Public Sector Development Programme to the provinces on April 28.
These projects belong to the ministries that have been transferred to provinces under the 18th Amendment.
The government has transferred Rs300 billion additional resources to provinces under the National Finance Commission award during the current fiscal year and now wanted the provinces to spend on the development spending through their own resources.
