Forty poems in ‘traditional’ category and 32 ‘classical’ poems will be recited and discussed during the four-day event. Top entries in both sections will receive prizes.

The festival is organised by the Heritage and Culture Ministry every two years and is aimed at reviving interest in Omani classical and traditional poetry.

“The festival has had a positive impact on the country’s cultural scene in general and on poetry and poets in particular,” Sayyid Ali said in remarks.

Shaikh Hilal bin Mohammed Al Amri, Director-General of Arts and Literature at the Heritage and Culture Ministry, said the event played a big role in the ministry’s efforts to support Omani poets and “introducing his creative skills” at the local and international levels.
