Candidates wishing to vie for the Unesco King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education can submit their nominations before November 10, 2015, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) has announced.
The prize, which has been funded by Bahrain since 2005, rewards individuals, institutions and non-governmental organisations for projects and activities that demonstrate best practice as well as creative use of ICT to enhance learning, teaching and overall educational performance.
Winners of 2015 prize will be announced in a ceremony at the Unesco headquarters early next year. Each of the two prize winners will receive a certificate and a cash prize of $25,000.
Submissions of nominations must reach Unesco via the governments of member states, in consultation with their National Commissions for Unesco or via international non-governmental organisations that maintain formal relations with the Organisation.
The winners will be selected by a specialised jury from all over the world.
Bahraini children participate in Russia camp
Ten Bahraini children are among 1,000 children from other countries who are taking part in the activities of the International Children Camp being held in Russia.
The camp, celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, will conclude on August 30 and attracts children of the age group from 12 to 15. The camp organises a host of competition, cultural, educational and artistic activities in addition to workshops to discuss children's issues.
Bahraini children expressed their thanks for the invitation as they will spend the next three week in fun-filled activities.
10,284 users benefited from e-services
The number of users of Ministry of Works electronic services during the first half of 2015 has reached 10,284, an offical at the ministry said.
The services can be accessed through both the ministry's portal www.works.gov.bh, and the eGovernment portal www.bahrain.bh. According to the offical, statistics revealed that the materials testing results services targeted the highest number of 7,572 users, after which came the traffic diversion request eService with 2114 users, and then the material/product assessment eService with 284 users.
Technical code for toys effective on Aug 12
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) has said the updated technical code for children's toys will become effective at customs ports from August 12.
The ministry has urged all importers of children's toys to comply with the updated code which prohibits the import of non-conformant toys into the local markets.
Toys should bear GCC standards conformity sign to ensure the safety of children.
Alba launches tree plantation campaign
Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has initiated a tree planting campaign as part of its commitment to maintain a green environment within the smelter.
The campaign will involve the cultivation of 100 tissue culture Palm trees by Alba employees around the smelter over the next few months. The campaign was kicked-off last week by the company's management team and Alba Labour Union representatives, wherein a batch of Palm trees were planted in different locations around the plant.
