The month of December of 2017 was the darkest in the history of Russia as the sun did not shine for more than 6 minutes for the whole month.
"Last December was the darkest month in the history of weather observations," the Meteonovosti weather portal said. On an average Moscow sees 18 hours of sunshine in the month of December normally. But 2017 has set a new record.
"It was an extraordinary situation this year," Roman Vilfand the Head of Russia's Meteorological Center said according to Moscow Times.
"This is due to the movement of air masses from the Atlantic, and it is from there the cyclones come to us. This led to the fact that there was practically no sun," Vilfand added.
