The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police claimed to have arrested the Karachi chief of the banned Hizbut Tehreer (HuT) during a raid in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area on Friday.
The suspect, Siham Qamar, was working as a deputy general manager at K-Electric, said CTD Operation-I in charge SSP Usman Bajwa, addressing a Press conference at his office in Police Headquarters in the Garden area on Friday evening.
"Qamar is a mechanical engineer and had access to educational institutions where he was spotted regularly," said Bajwa. "He used to attend social gatherings of influential people and propagate his group's agenda."
Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Saturday remanded four MQM workers to Rangers' custody for ninety days for interrogation.
They have been accused of committing heinous crimes including target killings, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and disrupting peace and order to spread terror.
In another related development, an accountability court on Saturday sent the Sui Southern Gas Company's (SSGC) Deputy Managing Director, Shoaib Warsi, along with former managing director Zuhair Siddiqui on a 14-day remand, on charges of embezzlement and terror financing.
The accused, who were reportedly taken into custody following a raid on the company's head office in August, have been handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for 14 days.
