Festival to focus 
on environment
issues in Oman

MUSCAT — An environment festival will be one of the highlights of this year’s ‘Omani Environment Day’ on January 8. The venue of the weeklong festival titled ‘Towards Sustainable Environment for the Society’s Development’ will be the Youth Complex in Nizwa in the Dhakhliyah region.

Several noted speakers have been invited to give lectures on nature conservation and climate change during the week, Mohammed bin Juma al Sharyani, Deputy Director-general of Environment Preservation at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, said. The events, he added, would be organised in collaboration with the Nizwa University, the College of Applied Sciences in Nizwa, the Omani Women’s Association in the wilayat and a number of public organisations.

“The programme will include a special to day to celebrate the role of the Omani woman in preserving the environment, in addition to several recreational and cultural activities,” Sharyani said. A joint environment symposium between the GCC countries and the EU is also planned, he added. This year’s Environment Day, he pointed out.
