First off, I would like to thank Khaleej Times for providing us with perfect information through newspapers in a time when we thought newspapers have all but vanished from our lives. I subscribed to the newspaper for the first time recently, after almost four years of living in the UAE, and I am very happy about the choice we made to get a newspaper. In a technology-filled era, it is important to teach our kids to read newspapers.
The wknd. issue of Mar 11 had so many great stories: the interview of Gulmehek Khan was motivating and inspiring; Beauty Basics offered natural tips that actually work, and everything in the magazine was designed to engage and give us ideas to explore, whether it was cooking (Meals in Jars), travel (The New Home of Cool) or the cover story on LBDs. Even the Adam-isms were great! To other readers, I'd like to say, please don't stop reading the papers. It's the perfect way to connect to the world.
» A little black magic
After reading this wknd.'s cover story (The Timeless Little Black Dress, Mar 11), I was seriously considering fishing out and putting on the LBD that has been hanging in my wardrobe for years now. It's such a great wardrobe investment, and a shame to ignore it. I can remember how stunning it looked when I first bought it from a high street shop years ago. The dress is a style essential that can take you from office to party, just by adding or removing the right accessories.
It's not easy to when you're growing up - we are always being told what we can, can't and shouldn't wear. However, whether you're 14 or 40, you can be elegant, fashionable and glamorous, and a little black dress is the perfect thing for that. I never knew the history behind the LBD, as explained in the article, so thank you for spelling it out. I feel inspired after reading such stylish stories in wknd.. Thanks for the good reads!

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous". It's almost like Coco Chanel could foresee the important role the little black dress would have in women's lives because there's nothing this classy or fabulous (The Timeless Little Black Dress, Mar 11).
The versatility this outfit offers is incredible. With a few accessories, this humble garment can dramatically transform your appearance and it can help you get whatever look you desire. You can be a diva in red stilettos and scarlet lipstick or a schoolgirl in sneakers and pigtails. Whether you need to show solemnity at a sad occasion or dress to the nines with a bang - colourful statement necklaces, anyone? - the LBD is the go-to choice. It's no wonder it's a well-established wardrobe staple in the closet of every woman, right up there with the crisp white shirt and a pair of denims.
A couple of LBDs in different styles is all you need to see you through school runs, cocktail parties and your weekly grocery rounds. When in doubt, you can always turn to your trusted LBD. As Karl Lagerfield famously said, "One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a little black dress."

» Hollywood Calling
The article on Deepika Padukone's fledgling Hollywood career hit the nail on the head (Queen Dee flies West, Mar 11). As much as I want to hope Deepika does as well as Priyanka Chopra, the differences in PR machinery on both sides is quite obvious. Priyanka's team makes sure her every move is known, making her the talk of the town, whereas Deepika's is more timid. Priyanka is everywhere, thanks to her show, Quantico, appearances on popular talk shows like Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, and even an appearance at the Academy Awards. Deepika has done well for herself so far, cementing her position in Bollywood with a string of hits and earning herself a spot with respected stars in her new Hollywood movie. Time will tell where she goes from here.
On a side note, it sure is a matter of pride to see so many of our stars join the Hollywood bandwagon, and to be embraced so well into the fold. It makes the art of cinema a truly global one. As the inimitable Alejandro Iñárritu so aptly puts it, "Cinema is universal; beyond flags, and borders and passports."

» Correction / Erratum:
We here at wknd. take pride in running a clean ship. But every now and then, we miss a spot. Case in point: Chasing the Sun in Taiwan, Mar 4, was mistakenly carried with a 'Germany' tag. A big thanks to our seagull-eyed readers for spotting that! And thank you all for writing in.
