It's childish, I know, but I was somehow chuffed no end to espy blueberry muffins spread out on a platter at Willlow Stream's relaxation area, as I did the grand tour of the space before my indulgence sesssion. For later, I promised myself (silently). I was already biased - in favour of the spa. The name, for one. Willow Stream has a dreamy quality to it. The decor, for another. It's beautifully appointed, and has a very personal feel to it. The lighting, the props, the colours. Kind of home-style. I noticed hair straighteners  placed thoughtfully at dressers. Double tick.
I spent some time in the steam room, and was then asked to generously lash my face with ice (kept outside in a lovely bowl) so that my facial pores - that had apparently opened up, thanks to the steam - could shrink (now I know why all beauty therapists advise having a final facial rinse with chilled water!). It's something I've never encountered over the course of my spa treks... so triple tick. I missed the sauna though!
Nyoman Sumerini, my therapist, did the rest of the magic. She told me the relaxing neroli-based treatment will balance out my senses (mind and body!), and used restorative body work along with reflexology, tension release and aromatherapy.
Therapy time
It all begins with some breathing techniques that release the chakras - so that I'm tension-free and open to therapeutic inputs. My therapist Nyoman, who's from Bali, expertly does a spot of foot reflexology, then places a hot stone on my back (after identifying the area to be a problem zone). She then proceeds to the aromatherapy - a deep, relaxing massage using neroli oil, working on pressure points. The treatment ended with an invigorating facial massage that brought all the smiles back. And a brief scalp massage for me to feel more level-headed as I walked out.
What we loved...
The treatment was fantastic - one can really feel a difference! A huge uplift is delivered to mind and body, and, consequently, soul. The therapist was excellent. The spa is beautiful. Delectable merchandise spread at reception. And, the muffins in the relaxation area were an added bonus.
What we didn't...
Absolutely nothing. But if I had to gripe about something, then the relaxation area, though comfy, seemed a bit restricted and looked more like a seating lounge (at least, the part where I was hanging out) than one where you can put your feet up and feel even more pampered.
