Rekha: Being fabulous... and more

Rekha
Rekha

Filmmaker Khalid Mohamed had quite a few occasions to interact with her (most notably when he scripted the screenplay for Zubeidaa, that was based on the life of his mother), so this week - the week when Rekha turns all of 62 - he's written a piece on his encounters with her. Quite the blockbuster!

The thing about Rekha is that it's not just her fabulousness. There's something about her. That extra, undefinable edge. When the sisterhood at the Nonnberg Abbey in The Sound of Music sang, "How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?" - referring to Maria - they may as well have been singing (or wondering) about Rekha. She's always been an enigma - though she's not cut herself off from the glare definitively in the Garbo-esque sense - which is why her rare appearances at odd events stir up massive agogness: everyone wants to stake a claim on any bit of info about her life. In the media fraternity, whoever has had access to Rekha maintains she can be very aloof, very non-generous with imparting any grist for the gossip mills. Speculation abounds but, well, let's not get greedy about hearsay. Filmmaker Khalid Mohamed had quite a few occasions to interact with her (most notably when he scripted the screenplay for Zubeidaa, that was based on the life of his mother), so this week - the week when Rekha turns all of 62 - he's written a piece on his encounters with her. Have you ever felt you are being too forgetful? I've had, on occasion, forgotten my email password, my Net banking password, my best friend's birthday and so on. Apparently, you can re-jig your brain power with some simple exercises - mental math mostly. Chase your memories with our forgetfulness feature. India's first fashion designer, the venerable Ritu Kumar, tells us how desi couture has undergone a complete metamorphosis. Travel goes north - all the way to fiery Iceland. Kitchen Classics is the case of spotting the odd one out: recipes with a 'outsider' ingredient. Intrigued? Get your fill.
All this and much more.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend.
