Pregnancy no longer comes with the 'threat' that your 'figure' will be ruined

In many Bollywood films of yore, a woman was considered a highly unsavoury character (read: a vamp. yes, I said it) if she refused to have kids, and be a "mother". But hang on - there's more to it. The reason for this woman not wanting to have kids was not because she wanted to pursue a career or didn't like the faces of kids much. It was because she wanted to "maintain" her "figure". It was a common enough sight to see said questionable woman standing in front of a full-length mirror, expostulating (to child-yearning husband or grandson-yearning mother-in-law), "What, you want me to ruin my figure?" Then, she'd stamp her foot prettily and flounce away from the room, leaving behind a brewing storm of dissatisfaction. Fortunately, the assumption that once "with child", you will pile on the pounds and lose your body shape, has been proven to be a myth. Dubai-based trainer Derryn Brown, who's now very pregnant, tells us how she's in great shape - and you can be too. Stick to a fitness regimen, that's her mantra. Post-pregnancy, you can get back to square one.
From pregnancy to its logical progression: parenting. Is it possible - like many believe - to be there for your kids all the time? Are you considered a bad sort if you cannot monitor the young ones at any given time? We stir the hornet's nest. In Travel, take a night-time tour of the Eternal City, and fall in love with it. The quintessential Roman Holiday. Bollywood regales us with how the industry is getting more PR-driven by the day, and one negative nugget of news can have journos blacklisted. All this and much more.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend.
