Last year, we ran a story on how being comfortable in your big "size" was a bad thing; so, if you are overweight/obese, and there are campaigns actively instilling in you the thought that, hey, no sweat (in the gym or at workout sessions), it's perfectly okay to be whatever you are (in this case, fat), let us tell you, in short, why you're somewhat misguided: it's unhealthy. This week, we turn that perspective on its head. Plus-size fashion is in vogue - has been in vogue for a while now, nothing new about that; but hear it from a group of bloggers who have their own take as to why it deserves a leg up - and not something to be snorted at. We are not eating crow here - because it's an entirely different spin: this is about aesthetics. and freedom. the freedom to choose to be fashionable even though one defies all conventional notions of what it takes to be fashionable. Fashion, for one, has always been a bit skewed. It's not enough to be within striking distance of a "normal" weight; you're always weighed down by demands to fit into impossibly tiny clothes. My ideal weight, for instance, is between 49kg and 57kg (yes, that's how wide the range is!). But if the scales hover anywhere over 53, I panic I won't be able to fit into that Size 4 top I splurged on. Sigh. The women we spoke with talk reassuringly about how one doesn't need to be apologetic if one isn't pint-sized; fashion is evolving; there's space for everyone.
If you thought art was permanent, think again. Dubai-based sand artist Nathaniel Alapide tells us why he has no qualms about his work getting washed away into the sea each time he creates something magical. Bollywood looks at the new generation of star kids. Find out why the dietary preference of "juicing" can be a bit of a social menace.
All this and much more. Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend.
